Apple has added a new option in iOS 13.3.1 that allows users to disable the U1 Ultra Wideband chip. Here's How to Disable the U1 Ultra Wideband Chip on Your iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro
What the U1 chip does is use positioning technology called Ultra-Wideband radio aiming to provide precise location and spatial awareness. It can detect your exact location or position much better than devices that do not house the U1 chip. iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro are equipped with the technology which enhances AirDrop functionality and can detect the nearest devices to show first in the sharing options.
As per Apple, the tech is not allowed in certain countries so the iPhone constantly needs to collect device location in order to know if Ultra Wideband is allowed in that region. This will enable or disable the U1 Ultra Wideband chip capabilities. You now have the option available to permanently disable the U1 Ultrawideband chip through the stock Settings app. If you're unfamiliar with the method, here's how to do it.
1. Launch the Settings app on your iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro.
2. Scroll down and tap on Privacy.
3. Now, select Location Services and choose System Services from the list of options.
4. Finally, search for Networking & Wireless option and Disable it.
Once you do that, you will be asked to disable the location for Network and Wireless. All you have to do is confirm to disable the U1 Ultra Wideband capabilities completely. One of the caveats associated with the method is that the location services will be turned off which contributes to enhanced WiFi and Bluetooth connections.
