According to Mercury Research, AMD anticipates the good year 2019 in the processor market. The company is growing in all segments, especially in the area of x86 CPUs for desktop and notebook computers.
Everything is green for AMD. The year 2019 ends with promising and encouraging figures. The giant is regaining a popularity rate that it has not achieved for many years. The Ryzen momentum is here. However, there was no “explosive” effect. Its presence is slowly increasing every month.
In the long term, it may take market share from its competitor Intel. Over the course of a year, the most significant increases (excluding IoT) can be observed in the mobility (+4%), the customer (+3.5%) and desktop (+2.4%) markets.
AMD ends 2019 with a market share of 18.3% in the desktop processor segment. The battle in the server segment with the EPYC offer is complicated by a certain “loyalty” of the companies to Intel. AMD achieved a presence of 4.5%, reflecting a growth of 0.2% over the previous quarter and 1.4% year-on-year.
According to Mercury Research, the company holds 16.2% of x86 mobile processor sales. This is probably due to the popularity of the brand’s APUs and its low-power chips, which are very popular in the low-cost notebook market.
More globally, and excluding the semi and IoT segments, AMD now accounts for 15.5% of the total x86 offering. Its growth is 3.2% over the previous year.
