Samsung Galaxy Buds+ Revealed in Hands On Video

Samsung’s upcoming wireless headphones, the Galaxy Buds+, have leaked in their entirety thanks to a European retailer shipping the headphones early to WinFuture’s Roland Quandt.

In a hands-on video, Quandt details many of the headphones’ specifications as well as giving more subjective views on battery life, sound quality, and call quality.

The Galaxy Buds+ have a claimed 11 hours of playtime (or 22 hours total if you include the power stored in the case) and can be charged via a Qi-enabled charging pad. Quandt said that after using the headphones for three and a half hours the battery was at 54%, which is significantly below Samsung’s claimed battery life.

The headphones apparently fit well enough that "not having ANC [active-noise-cancellation] doesn’t even really matter."

With regards to audio, Quandt followed up the video with a series of tweets saying that the sound quality is “fine” but that it was somewhat lacking in bass. Enabling the bass boost via the companion app to account for this apparently gives a similar sound quality to the original OnePlus Bullets.

The Galaxy Buds+ have three microphones (two outer, and one inner), but their quality is similar to “a Walkie Talkie," sounding "very nasal" with a large amount of ambient noise; however, Quandt says this call was made from a moving train without VoLTE, which could be a factor.

Quandt’s video also mentions many of the specs leaked by Evan Blass previously: two way dynamic drivers (a woofer for the low to mid-range frequencies and a tweeter for high-pitched sounds), support for Bluetooth 5, IPX2 waterproofing and multi-device connections. This is notably different from the original Galaxy Buds, which could only connect with one device and did not work with iOS devices, which the Galaxy Buds+ reportedly can. They also work with Spotify and support specific integrated gesture controls, but Quandt’s video did not showcase that functionality.

Quant’s states that the Galaxy Buds+ will go on sale for $169 (or €169), compared to the $149 (€149) price tag on the existing Galaxy Buds. The earbuds are expected to be launched at Samsung Unpacked alongside the the Samsung Galaxy S20.

This is not the only early reveal of a Samsung product this week. During the Superbowl, Samsung officially showed the Galaxy Z Flip phone for the first time, which is expected to have a 6.7-inch screen, dual 12-megapixel cameras (regular and ultrawide) on the back (one regular, one ultrawide), two batteries, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus processor.
