AirPods The Most Popular Earbuds With Samsung Struggling To Keep Up

In what might just be the least surprising news we’ve ever heard, Apple’s AirPods are by far the most popular true wireless earbuds on the market. According to Counterpoint Research, Apple’s AirPods line makes up 47% of the market.

Second place goes to both Xiaomi and Samsung, but they were way out in the distance and nowhere near Apple’s strong showing.

The launch of Apple’s new AirPods Pro model in late October helped the company record steady 44% growth in 4Q19, with 6m units sold despite supply shortages. Apple’s market share fell slightly to 41% QoQ as it attempted to keep up with swift overall market growth; market share for the full year reached 47% […]

Xiaomi kept its second-place spot in the quarter supported by strong sales of its Redmi Airdots, followed by Samsung, QCY and JLab. The race for second intensified, with both Xiaomi and Samsung holding around 6% unit market share for the year.

The report also notes that the overall true wireless earbud market grew as a whole during the final quarter of 2019, with 51m units sold. That took the total to 130m units for the full year.

As for the future, Counterpoint Research also expects that AirPods sales will be more than 100 million during 2020. That’s a huge number, but it’s possible that Apple’s main issue will be keeping AirPods and AirPods Pro in stock long enough to actually sell them to punters.
