Yes, the iPhone 11 Pro is waterproof-ish enough to survive a good soaking in a pool, lake or ocean. But why chance it when you don’t have to?

Should you fancy a photo swim, you will want to consider the AquaTech AxisGO underwater camera housing for the iPhone 11 lineup.

There are a number of cases on the market that provide added confidence for using your iPhone for underwater photography. This is AquaTech’s specialty. The company has been creating underwater housings for dive photographers for more than 20 years.

Apple has, for the most part, removed the fear of water by the way it seals up an iPhone. Exposure to chlorine and saltwater, however, can overtime erode the glue and substrate used to seal your handset. This is especially true if you do not rinse your device afterward in freshwater.

Underwater iPhone case: A deep dive

AquaTech uses the same professional-grade materials for the $199 AxisGO case that go into its waterproof kits for DSLRs.

The AxisGO case is made with polycarbonate and aluminum materials and is designed to use a separate lens port system with anti-reflective and hydrophobic coatings for best image quality.

A polycarbonate membrane gives the user full control of the touchscreen, allowing for the same swipes, taps and pinches as on dry land.

The grip also serves as the case’s locking mechanism. AquaTech says, “Confidently shoot at depths down to 33 feet (10 meters) with the peace of mind knowing your iPhone is safe inside the AxisGO.”

The design is not compatible with the use of the ultra-wide lenses of the iPhone 11 series, but AquaTech has a separately sold lens that can give the same field of view.

The case comes with rubber tabs so that an iPhone XS, XS Max and XR can fit inside an AxisGO case. Those same tabs would be needed for the iPhone 11.

AxisGo can serve as a protective case on rugged above sea level terrain. The brand also has a number of accessories, including lenses, lens housings and video grips for sale on its website.

AquaTech recommends a freshwater rinse after each use to keep the seals in good shape.
