MLB calls free Baseball iPhone app a foul ball

The creator of the free Baseball iPhone application has been asked by the MLB …

Following the launch of the App Store, iPhone apps are selling (or are being downloaded) like hotcakes. A whole range of application are available, including a free Baseball application. The app provides baseball statistics from all the way back to 1871, and is billed as a way for baseball fans to settle arguments (or cheat during trivia night). Unfortunately, Major League Baseball isn't too happy with images used in the application, and according to PC World, has asked the author to remove them from the program.

The images in question are team logos in the application as well as one use of the MLB logo. The organization believes the use of the logos infringes its trademark, and is also worried that the logo use will cause people to believe that Baseball is an official, MLB-sanctioned application. You see, the MLB is also selling its own application, called MLB At Bat. That one costs $5 and provides live scores, so there's a bit of difference between them. Either way, Baseball's author isn't taking any chances, and will be removing or blurring out the images soon.
