And anything else you can think of. If they can't solve your problem or answer your question, then you go home with a problem, but you still got out of the house, so that's not a bad thing.

John will take you through all the new features of Essential Graphics and beyond, from setting styles across text and subtitles to creating grid layouts and animated graphics that go pop. 8:40- 9:25PM - Shaping Success: Mentorship's Role in the Editing Room - Joaquin Elizondo and Chris Cavanagh
Chris and I are thrilled to share our experience working on the Netflix limited series GRISELDA, along with our process of securing a co-editing credit for Chris on the show. Throughout our discussion, we'll explore the intricacies of our creative collaboration, shedding light on the workflow we've also implemented on such shows as DARK WINDS and NARCOS: MEXICO.

Getting Chris a co-editing credit is a testament to the profound impact of mentorship and support in our field. We'll provide practical advice on navigating the steps to attain a co-editing credit on a scripted TV show.

Transitioning to the broader theme of mentorship, I'll draw upon personal experiences and insights from my mentors. I'll highlight the invaluable role of mentorship in nurturing talent and driving growth within the editing community. Additionally, I'll share details about my Hollywood Editing Mentor program, aimed at equipping aspiring editors with the tools and guidance to thrive in the industry.

About Joaquin Elizondo
Joaquin Elizondo has over 20 years of professional experience as an editor and currently works in the world of scripted television shows. His most recent editing credits include GRISELDA (Netflix), DARK WINDS (AMC), NARCOS: MEXICO (Netflix) and THE HOT ZONE: ANTHRAX (NatGeo).
Before arriving in Los Angeles, Joaquin worked in unscripted television for several years in New York City where he edited content for HBO Sports, NBC, Telemundo, and Bravo.
Joaquin majored in Film & Video Studies at the University of Michigan and grew up in the San Diego-Tijuana border region. As someone who has sought out and benefited from mentoring, Joaquin is now taking on the role of mentor by helping aspiring editors and assistants in navigating the path to achieving their career goals. He created the Hollywood Editing Mentor Program and Podcast to provide guidance and support for those trying to break into or advance their careers in post production.

About Chris Cavanagh
Chris is a film & TV editor who moved to Los Angeles eight years ago. For him, editing is not just a profession, it's a passion. He creates human emotion for a living and plays a crucial role in bringing stories to life on screen. Chris believes that a good editor is committed to fully engaging the viewer in every moment from start to finish.
In recent years, he has been pursuing his passion for editing scripted stories and has served as an editor for two Netflix series: "GRISELDA" and "NARCOS: MEXICO." This year, Chris has been editing a sci-fi short film produced by George R.R. Martin, set to debut in late 2024.
Before working on these notable film & TV projects, he gained experience as an assistant editor and was mentored by top-shelf editors on "DARK WINDS" for AMC, "Cobra Kai" for Netflix, and "Star Trek" for Paramount+. Even earlier, Chris edited dozens of unscripted TV shows, documentaries, and indie films in New York City.
No matter the genre or project, the cornerstones of his approach are collaboration and trust. For Chris, helping creators achieve their vision is the most satisfying part of the art of editing.
When he's not in a cutting room, Chris enjoys playing with his two kids, cooking dinner with his wife, or attempting to complete one of the 7,942 daily tasks required to exist as both a professional and a parent in the 21st century.

Metro Red Line
Yes, Los Angeles has a subway and if possible you ought to use it. Riders are dropped of at Sunset and Vermont and then it is a walk of several blocks and uphill to get to the Theatre. The Park has a gated stairway ending at Barnsdall Ave, just behind the strip mall. It's the only access point from this side, but it is often locked. There is long, tree-shaded stairway leading from Hollywood Blvd to the Gallery Theatre and this area is sometimes shared with a homeless population. The best route for people who use mobility devices is the sidewalk along the Barnsdall Park road access. More info on the Red Line can be found here.

PARKING: Parking is FREE. There is ample parking on top of hill near the Art Park. Parking extends around the perimeter of the Park. NOTE: Please park your car diagonally even though the spaces are not marked that way. If there are no spaces to park at top, then use parking lot at bottom of hill near Hollywood Blvd. Click HERE to download a PDF(300K) of the grounds that points out the parking areas and includes other helpful hints.
