Popular Apple news this week touched on an iPhone-optimized version of Lotus …

This week's popular Apple news continued to center around the iPhone, with a few extra tidbits sprinkled in. Here's your chance to catch up on the highlights of the week, in case you were too busy doing other things (like enjoying the weather).

IBM to release Lotus iNotes for iPhone later this year: If you don't get enough of Lotus Notes in the office (and who ever does?), you'll soon be able to access it from your iPhone. too. And as much as people love to hate Notes, this iPhone-optimized version doesn't look too shabby.

App Store downloads skyrocket, but daily usage remains low: There have been 60 million downloads through Apple's App Store, and, generally speaking, users love the new third-party software for iPhone and iPod touch. Still, only about 20 percent of an app's unique audience use it on a daily basis, and most people only use apps once per day.

Two weeks after Apple calls MobileMe stable, mail goes down: Trouble reared its head for Apple's struggling MobileMe service as mail went down once again this week (at the same time as Gmail, no less). Although the outage only affected Mail and not most of MobileMe's other services, users found themselves once again inconvenienced two weeks after the rocky MobileMe launch.

Apple may add QuickTime acceleration hardware to future Macs: A new rumor says that Apple is adding custom QuickTime encoding/decoding chips to new Macs. Whether or not such hardware is part of Apple's "future product transition" is still anyone's guess, but it's fun to speculate.

Review: Apple iPhone Bluetooth Headset: Charles Jade takes another look at the Apple Bluetooth Headset after having been disappointed the first time around with the original iPhone. The iPhone 3G makes the Apple iPhone Bluetooth Headset usable, and with a little modification, the Dual Dock for the original iPhone can be, too.

Fix iPhone's "Apple logo screen of death" with Recovery Mode: A number of users are reporting that, after upgrading to iPhone 2.0.1, their iPhones are stuck in what they refer to as the "Apple logo screen of death." Neither a reboot nor connecting to iTunes will yank the device out of its trance. There is, however, an easy fix.

Former Apple general counsel settles with SEC on backdating: Apple's former general counsel Nancy Heinen has agreed to a settlement in SEC's lawsuit against her for her role in fraudulent backdating of stock option grants to Apple executives. She will pay $2.2 million, which includes money earned from the backdating, plus interest, along with a $200,000 punitive fee, though she admits no wrongdoing.

iPhone 3G network problems may get firmware fix: Customers with complaints about reception and the iPhone 3G may get be getting a firmware answer, if that is actually the cause of the problem. No one is exactly sure at this point, however, and some believe that the problem can only be solved by a recall.

Creepy bobblehead iPhone dock may fire you in an elevator: You knew it was going to happen some day—we're just shocked it took this long. If you have an infatuation with Steve Jobs and an iPhone, have we the hand-crafted product for you!
