Oracle Corp. may seek to win regulatory approval of its purchase of Sun Microsystems Inc. by selling or spinning off Sun's MySQL business, according to reports Tuesday.

Eric Savitz, blogging on Barron's and All Things Digital, quoted a Global Equities Research analyst talking about the MySQL possibilities.

Oracle is still trying to get EU approval for the deal, but regulators could see the ownership of MySQL by Oracle as a reduction in corporate database competition.

Oracle is in the midst of a $7.4 billion acquisition of Santa Clara-based Sun.
