Peepometer For iPad Offers Unique Way To See Weather

Recently, the folks behind the popular Swackett X weather application for Mac unveiled their newest iOS app, Peepometer. The $1.99 iPad app provides a unique weather report and is modeled after the stylish gauges, dials, and meters from the 1950s.
Created by AGLogic, LLC, Peepometer includes nine main sections, including Peeps, Forecast, Temperature, Barometer, Wind, Imagery, Compass, Clock, and Alerts. Each is accessible by either swiping back and forth, or by making a selection on the app’s toolbar.
Peeps visualize the weather using people symbols. These “peeps” are a central theme in both Swackett X for Mac and the free iPhone app, swackett, which arrived last fall.
For example, on a warm summer day, the “peeps” may wear flowers in their hair, dresses, and sandals. On a rainy day, they’ll be holding umbrellas and wear light weight coats.
Peeps are organized into three main “peep packs.” These include classic, modern, and the 1950s edition. Additionally, occasional “Easter egg” peeps show up. These special edition peeps are used as a tribute to people, cultural events, or to commemorate a special event, such as a birthday, a death, or anniversary.
For example, recent eggs included those called Cinco-de-Peepo, The Peepengers, and New Peep. These highlighted Cinco de Mayo, “The Avengers,” and “New Girl,” respectively.
Under Forecast, Peepometer includes a “dial-a-forecast” device. Here one can access current weather conditions, or those for tonight and tomorrow. In addition, Forecast includes daily forecasts for the next five days.
To access the specific weather forecast, simply turn the dial right or left to the appropriate spot on the wheel.
Temperature and Barometer include old-style weather stations. Here the weather is given in both Fahrenheit and Celsius, and whether conditions are about to change for better or worse. Wind, meanwhile, shows current airstream conditions and whether a breeze, gale, or storm is approaching.
Imagery includes local, regional, and national full-motion radar images (where available) with rain, ice, and snow color mapping.
Compass and Clock shows current location and time, respectively, again using an old-style mechanical instrument. Finally, Alerts show active watches or warnings for each location you specify.
Peepometer is an amazing app and one that will certainly transport you back to a time when meteorologists, the aviation industry, and weather enthusiasts used mechanical gauges and dials to observe weather conditions.
