This game takes place in several different levels set in various post-apocalyptic settings; a mall, a movie theater, a public bathroom, and so on. In each level, zombies advance forward from the background towards the player and the player must squeeze their heads and burst them open before they reach the foreground. The set up feels very much like an arcadey first person shooter where players pinch their fingers instead of pulling the trigger on a plastic light gun. Each level is completed by exploding every zombie's head and not allowing any of them to advance too far. As zombies heads burst, they also eject a gush of pulverized brains and goo that covers the player's screen. The player then has to use their finger to wipe of the muck and keep their field of vision clear.
The pinching gestures used to burst zombie heads isn't perfect by any means. It works fairly well, but requires precise aim even when the zombies on screen are tiny compared to the player's fingers. It can be difficult to find the correct place to pinch and often devolves into randomly pinching around the screen to catch enemy zombies by luck rather than skill. The visual assets in Zombie Burst are all hand drawn and have their own unique style, but the animations are very rudimentary and especially so during gameplay. Fortunately, this game doesn't take it self too seriously and players will enjoy several funny little interludes as they play through the game.
