Nerdtris Knows There Are 10 Types Of People: Those Who Know Binary And Those Who Don't

Nerdtris ($1.99) by APP-ARISE GmbH puts your binary skills to the test, but don’t worry if you don’t have the skills because the app is there to help.

Binary, the simple computer code consisting of ones and zeroes, can be used to represent numbers. In this case, you need to find the correct representation to match the given number.

The game works by showing a seven-by-seven grid of blocks of one and zero. A timer bar at the top progresses to the right until it reaches the end. A number shows in the middle of the bar, which you’ll need to convert into binary. Select the right combination on the grid and those blocks will disappear.

Are you not nerdy enough to actually know binary? Don’t worry, there’s help within the app for that. A question mark button on the left of the timer bar will show the correct combination.

The timer bar resets once you key in the correct combination. You can elect to skip guessing a number, though the penalty is that the timer bar’s progress stays put as you try to guess the next number.

It’s game over once the bar reaches the end.

This game seems to mainly serve the purpose of bragging about knowing binary. There’s very little interest aside from that. For those that already know binary, this is just rote recall. Those that have no idea about binary just have to keep hitting the question mark button and finding the corresponding buttons in the grid.

Games like Matching With Friends, or Patientia offer ways to make combos and then capitalize on them to score more points.

I hardly found any appeal to this game, and it wasn’t because of my limited knowledge of binary (I at least know the binary for one and zero). Rather, there’s very little gameplay available. The app’s name is a play on the word “Tetris,” but the two are definitely not related.
