Armedia Releases Apple iOS and Google Android Mobile App for The Well Project, a Leading Global Resource for Women and HIV

ATLANTA--()--Armedia, LLC, a leading provider of innovative content and mobile solutions, announces the simultaneous release of The Well Project mobile app to the Apple App Store and Google Play.

The content rich mobile app is an innovative step by The Well Project to continue to provide critical community and informational resources to its global audience of women living with HIV, their caregivers and their health care providers. Currently, more than 70% of The Well Project's 1.3 million annual visitors are from outside of The United States. The app amplifies and extends The Well Project’s core objectives of promoting better standards of care, increasing public awareness and education about HIV disease among women, and most importantly, connecting people in search of a trusted, supportive, and protected environment.

"We are thrilled to launch the mobile application for The Well Project and to make our comprehensive content and A Girl Like Me blog for women living with HIV available more broadly to individuals who may not have access to traditional computers," said Dawn Averitt Bridge, founder and chair of the board of The Well Project. "In an age of ever-changing technology, it was clear to us that we needed to expand our offering to increase access to women in need of HIV information and resources worldwide. We were excited to work with such an esteemed partner as Armedia in this endeavor, and we look forward to expanding the number of platforms and languages in which the mobile app is available."

The Well Project mobile app, designed from the onset with intention to natively support both Apple iOS and Google Android platforms, was initially unveiled at the beginning of the recent International AIDS Conference in Washington, DC (July 22-27, 2012). The app was implemented using the open source PhoneGap mobile development platform, primarily leveraging HTML 5, CSS and JavaScript technologies for development. Further, the mobile architecture was integrated with The Well Project’s existing Drupal and WordPress Web Content Management tools to ensure consistent management of content and simplify publishing of content to the mobile apps.

“We are delighted to be able to support The Well Project’s mission through the development of this app,” said Armedia CEO Jim Nasr. “This marriage of content, community and mobility is an important step towards meeting The Well Project’s vision for global reach and a connected user community.”

About The Well Project

The Well Project is a nonprofit organization that bridges research, resources and relationships whose mission is to change the course of this HIV/AIDS pandemic through a unique and comprehensive focus on women. The Well Project addresses three critical gaps in the HIV and AIDS arenas: information access, treatment research and community support. The Well Project's offerings include web portals, available in English and Spanish, that offer information on more than 100 topics relevant to women's lives; the Women's Research Initiative on HIV/AIDS (WRI), a think tank of leading in HIV researchers advocating for "more, better and faster" research in women; and the A Girl Like Me blog, providing women living with HIV globally with the platform to share experiences and connect with others “like me” in a safe environment.

The Well Project is continually working to develop new resources to educate, nurture, and support the community of women living with HIV, their caregivers and their health care providers. The Well Project encourages everyone to share their experiences living with and caring for women with HIV disease. That information will help inform research for new treatments, promote better standards of care, further public awareness and education about HIV disease among women, and most importantly, connect people in search of a trusted, supportive, and protected environment. Together, we can change the tide of the HIV epidemic…one woman at a time.
