Don't Pop the Champagne Quite Yet, Microsofties

This article is more than 10 years old.

Apple (AAPL) won the big patent infringement case it filed against Samsung for ripping off all its super ideas for the iPhone. The Wall Street Journal reported that Microsoft (MSFT) could be the big beneficiary because carriers will be looking for an alternative that didn't copy the iPhone (at least, not so blatantly).

But Steve Ballmer should keep that champagne on ice for now. The Journal has also reported that Samsung’s coming up with workarounds to the offending patents – it already has some for two software-related patent features.

And if Samsung runs out of ideas, Apple itself suggested some work-arounds last December, according to The Verge. Just change the color of the front surface, change the shape, and follow some other passive-aggressive suggestions on Apple’s list, and all is well.

And as the Journal points out, consumers aren't ga-ga over Microsoft mobile products. Even if BusinessInsider did run a kind review, taking the high road hasn't earned it high praise.
