Ever since Apple upgraded its 15-inch MacBook Pro to a 2880 x 1800 “Retina” display in June, everyone has been waiting for the resolution doubling to filter down to its smaller, less-expensive laptops. Well, according to a post from 9to5Mac, a refreshed 13.1-inch MacBook Pro with a Retina class display will be showing up at Apple’s rumored “iPad Mini” event, expected to be held on October 23rd. While this isn’t the first rumor we’ve seen about the computer, 9to5Mac cites a “consistently reliable source at a high-profile US retailer.”

The report says that two versions of the smaller Retina MacBook Pro will be available, with differing processor and storage configurations. Also, like the 15-inch model before it, it’s said that Apple will continue to produce the non-Retina version as a lower-cost alternative. Aside from the display upgrade, we can also expect Intel’s third-generation Ivy Bridge processors and USB 3.0, which is native to the new chipset.
