This Is An iPad Launch Day Like No Other

November 2, 2012
The iPad mini and iPad with Retina display are now available for sale around the globe. However, early reports suggest this won’t be a typical “iPad day.” In other words, the long lines that we typically see on Apple product launch days haven’t materialized. Reuters was first on the scene and reported that lines in Australia and parts of Asia were very short. In the U.K., the situation was the same, with no line at Apple’s famed Covent Garden location. As 8 a.m. arrived in the Eastern U.S., similar findings were being reported in Florida, Maryland, and Ohio. Beyond speculating, there is really no way of knowing what this means. For one, many iPad mini and iPad with Retina display buyers might have simply placed a preorder online. For another, this is the first time Apple has released new iPads in November as opposed to sometime in the spring. Could it be that this timeframe has backfired on Apple? Plus, we already know that Hurricane Sandy has disrupted sales in parts of the U.S. As a reminder, the iPad mini and iPad with Retina display are now available in the United States, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
