HP ElitePad 900 Windows 8 tablet hits pre-order for $649

HP’s Windows 8-powered ElitePad 900 tablet has hit pre-order with a $649 price point. 

The HP ElitePad 900 – which is targeted primarily at business users – is expected to ship sometime in January. 

As noted above, the tablet starts at $649 and scales up, based on accessories and options. 

Base price will get you a Windows 8 Pro ElitePad equipped with an Intel Atom Z2760 Clover Trail processor, a 10.1-inch screen with a resolution of 1280 x 800 and an active digitizer.

The tablet also boasts 2 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage, a two-cell battery, integrated Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, and an eight-megapixel rear camera. Additional specs? A front camera capable of 1080p resolution for videoconferencing and a microSD card slot for storage expansion.

HP also offers a version of the tablet with 64 GB of integrated storage starting at $699. An extra $50 for twice the storage space is a definitely a sweet deal. An additional $100 gets you GPS capability along with integrated mobile broadband. Oh, and, yes, ElitePad users will have to purchase a $49 pen accessory if they want to take advantage of the active digitizer.

Other available options include a dock and a wireless keyboard. The ElitePad weighs 1.5 pounds and is roughly 1/3 of an inch thick. Since the tablet is aimed at business users, it also features drive encryption paired with HP security software.
