Sprint To Offer iPhone Customers Total Protection From Loss Beginning Jan. 25

January 17, 2013
On Jan. 25, Sprint customers who own an iPhone will be able to insure their handset courtesy of the company’s Total Equipment Protection (TEP) service plan. This information, which Sprint hasn't officially confirmed, comes from an anonymous tipster at Engadget. TEP, which is $11 per month, is similar to AppleCare+. However, instead of paying a one-time upfront charge like you would using Apple’s service, TEP customers have to pay a $150-$200 deductible per approved claim. Previously, Sprint did not offer TEP for iPhone customers. New iPhone customers have 30 days from activation or update to enroll in TEP. The service is not available for those outside the 30-day window. The plan covers smartphone loss, theft, physical/liquid damage, and mechanical and electrical failure due to defect or normal wear and tear.
