Microsoft's Xbox has always been a bit of a phenomenon with its massive console and title sales. Today, the software giant announced that its gaming console, Xbox 360, has been the best selling device in its class for the 25th month in a row.

What's even more shocking is that over 281,000 Xbox 360 consoles were sold in January alone according to a report from the NPD group.

Retail spending on the platform, which includes hardware, software and accessories, reached $338 million. This also happens to be the most for any console in the U.S. With 44 percent of market share in the domain, Microsoft's console is reminding game developers that it is the most rewarding platform to invest in.

The company also mentioned that their console held five of the top ten console game titles including big names like "Far Cry 3," "NBA 2K13" "Call of Duty: Black Ops II" "Madden NFL13" and "Halo 4."

Many experts believe that the Microsoft plans to launch the next Xbox sometime this year. There is also speculation that the device could join the Windows family like the tablets and smartphones. If this does happen, it would mean that the console would have access to more gaming titles than ever, making it an even stronger competitor in the market.
