Firefighter 'used iPad to beat his wife after seeing picture she posted online that he didn't like'

A New York City firefighter was arrested for allegedly using an iPad to repeatedly beat his wife over the head after she posted a picture online he didn't like.

Police say Eric Bischoff, a 14-year FDNY veteran, hit his wife twice over the head with the Apple device before grabbing her by the hair and pulling her outside their Staten Island house early Monday morning.

The 39-year-old father of two, who also serves as trustee to the Tottenville's firefighter union, allegedly then locked his wife out of the house before fleeing the scene with the iPad, SiLive.com reports.

When police arrived at the scene at 12.30am they reported finding his wife swollen where she had been hit and say that Mr Bischoff was intoxicated.

They would not say what the image was that they were fighting over.

On Tuesday morning he turned himself in to police and was arraigned on charges of second and third-degree assault.

He was released on his own recognizance with his next court date set for April 25.

Contacted by SiLive, Mr Bischoff told the paper that he is innocent and that he categorically denies the charges against him.

He added: 'It's a personal, private matter. I have two young children and now I need to worry about their welfare. We're in the process of finding a reconciliation and resolution.'

He was not suspended from duty pending a FDNY investigation, a FDNY spokesman told New York Daily News.
