CadFaster intros MyCadbox for model viewing on iPad and desktop

CadFaster strikes again with another cloud-based CAD viewing solution designed to make CAD collaboration, well, faster! This one is aimed at the MCAD market.

CadFaster of Finland, the makers of the CadFaster | Collaborate software applications for working with CAD and BIM data in the cloud and on iPad devices, has introduced MyCadbox.com for cloud-based model sharing, viewing and collaboration.

Public Beta Stage

MyCadbox by CadFaster enables what the company says is ultra-fast 3D CAD model viewing, sharing, markup and co-viewing of models anytime and anywhere. MyCadbox syncs 3D models and markups automatically between PC and iPad but there is no word yet on if there will be a Mac-based version.

This public beta release supports STEP format at the moment but will include other common MCAD and product design native file formats.

01 - CadFaster of Finland launches MyCadbox.

“Our clients told us that CAD models take too long to open and they are difficult to share for collaboration,” said Janne Hietanen, CTO, CadFaster. “MyCadbox optimization has reduced the opening time to a fraction of conventional tools’ opening time. MyCadbox enables quick automated sharing and immediate access to your CAD models on mobile devices making anytime, anywhere access and co-viewing possible.

The way the product works is that you install a desktop version that associates STEP data files (other formats are coming) with MyCadbox on the desktop. The product then opens these files when they are clicked on in the Windows interface. From this application environment you upload CAD files to the MyCloudbox cloud where they get shared with mobile uses on iPad or other users on the desktop.

02 - This is the second cloud-based iPad app from CadFaster.

There is no word on a Mac desktop version but Architosh is talking to the company currently and this will be something we will bring clarification to.

CadFaster’s new MyCadbox is available now from the Apple iTunes Store and from www.mycadbox.com. It is free.

There are two options. A free account allows you to store up to ten models online in the cloud. To store more than ten models (but only up to 100) you can subscribe for 9.99.USD per month. That is your second option.  Again, this is a public beta launch but very useful and the company wants feedback.

Architosh Analysis

This new product leverages CadFaster’s experience with CadFaster | Collaborate, their cloud-based desktop and iPad based collaboration CAD and BIM tool series. The company’s expertise is not just in the cloud but in their innovative desktop and mobile viewer apps and the syncing technology and speed available to work with CAD data online.

We have some features coming up on this Finnish company later this month which you won’t want to miss out on if you care about CAD/BIM in the cloud and mobile. One item we aim to clarify is why the company is taking longer on the Mac desktop launch then we originally counted on.
