Pinterest iOS, Android Apps Updated

Just days after Pinterest unveiled its revamped website, the social corkboard is now adding those changes to its mobile apps.

The newest version launched Thursday for the iPhone and iPad, and is available for free in the Apple App Store.

Updated features include the ability to edit your Pinterest profile on-the-go, as well as an entirely new look on the iPad, which now includes the same simplified design as the Web.

Pinterest also included the "People who pinned this also pinned" function, which hit the Web early this week, and is designed to help users discover similar pins they might like.

Additionally, the latest version of the Android app has been pushed into the Google Play store, and also includes the "people who pinned this" feature.

Monday's changes aim to make discovery on the website even easier by adding a close-up view of pins, which include pins from the same board and the same sources.

"We wanted to make things simpler and cleaner, without requiring you to learn anything new," lead product designer Jason Wilson wrote in a blog post earlier this week. "What you'll find are some subtle but useful changes, like bigger pins, so you can see more of what you love."

Pinterest tested the renovations in January with select users, gathering and analyzing feedback. The Web changes will roll out gradually, and users should expect to receive an invitation soon. The mobile updates are currently available to all pinners.

Following its explosion in 2012, which Nielsen said earned the site the largest year-over-year increase in total time spent on social media in the U.S., Pinterest made its first acquisition in January, snagging recipe discovery site Punchfork.
