Steve Jobs has been immortalized with an official biography, two upcoming films, a comic book, a graphic novel, and more than one action figure. Now the late Apple co-founder will be featured among the colorful pages of Japanese manga.
The May 2013 issue of comic anthology Kiss features "Steve Jobs," the big-eyed adaptation of Walter Isaacson's 2011 biography of the same name, according to The Verge, which got its hands on a copy of the magazine that hit stands this week.
The first chapter of the comic has been posted on Yahoo Japan's digital bookstore (in Japanese). It includes a 15-page introduction, which focuses on Isaacson's decision to pen Jobs's biography. The manga then focuses on Jobs's early life, ending with the visionary's first meeting with the comic version of Steve Wozniak. The caption, as translated by The Verge, reads: "And that was how the two Steves met" narration directly from Isaacson's book.
The newest adaptation of Jobs's life, from Japanese manga artist Mari Yamazaki, interprets the story as her own, in a way that The Verge described as a "semi-realistic monochrome style that is never off-putting, but stays true to the Japanese manga tradition."
Yamazaki released a preview of her work two weeks ago a profile view of Jobs, complete with his trademark black turtleneck, minimal glasses, and smirk (pictured below).
The manga version of Jobs's life will continue in next month's issue of Kiss.
