The person that convinced Steve Jobs to add LTE compatibility to the iPhone 5 may have been none other than Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam. That’s according to Lowell McAdam, who recounted the story at NAB earlier today, reports Fierce Wireless. The Verizon boss told the audience how he tried to convince the late Apple CEO to add an LTE radio to its new phone, saying, "I was really trying to sell him and he sat there without any reaction. Finally, he said, ‘Enough. You had me at 10 Mbps. I know you can stream video at 10 Mbps.’ And Apple’s next phone was LTE."

Over the past couple of years, the shift to 4G has totally reshaped the US wireless landscape, with no carrier pushing things as early or aggressively as Verizon. LTE traffic now accounts for more than 50 percent of its total traffic, and the company has been upfront about plans to focus on LTE (even discussing a transition to LTE-only phones) while it does little more for its 3G CDMA network than keep it up and running for existing customers. But while no one might have had more riding on getting an LTE radio inside the iPhone 5 than Verizon, we wonder just how much of the decision to add it can actually be traced back to McAdam's meeting with Jobs.
