Where Angels Cry Review

While many of G5 Entertainment's Hidden Object or Adventure based games offer plenty of benefits for casual gamers, Where Angels Cry struggles to rise above distinct mediocrity. Unfortunate given its promising start.

That start involves being placed in the Middle Ages in a monastery in Rome, while controlling the fate of a monk. Mysterious happenings are occurring, including the disappearance of another monk and it's down to the player to figure out just what's going on. It makes a change from the usual casual adventure motif, offering something that could prove to be quite intriguing. Unfortunately, it's the gameplay of Where Angels Cry that lets it down.

Focusing on the adventure side of things and leaving players to solve a series of tasks, there's little clarity as to why such things need to be completed. Instead, everything is loosely linked together with the player just left to accept their fate. Starting out by growing a garden wasn't the most interesting of tasks, nor the fact that it wasn't always clear what needed to be done. Worst of all, it made me want to skip ahead and use the Hints button rather than figure things out for myself, a true sign of being bored.

There's the usual selection of mini-games to tackle, too. These tend to involve sliding and manipulating certain items, as well as the ever popular 'Tower of Hanoi' style conundrum, plus some more testing logical challenges. A Match Three style duel mode is available, as well, offering a slightly different take on the usual way of doing things. It's not really enough, though, as Where Angels Cry still feels distinctly on the weaker end of the scale.

With uninspiring graphics and a selection of puzzles that could be better tackled elsewhere, it's left to the story to keep players entertained which isn't wise at all. There are better propositions out there than this.
