BANGALORE: Bangalore: International Data Corporation (IDC) said Hard Copy Peripherals (HCP) market in India witnessed a Year-on-Year (Y-o-Y) growth of 2.0% in CY 2012 over CY 2011 and stood at approximately 3.2 mn units in terms of unit shipments.
HCP market in India was primarily driven by Laser MFPs, which marked a remarkable Y-o-Y growth of 35.3% in CY 2012.
InkJet (primarily A3 and A4 formats), a consumer driven market, recorded a Y-o-Y decline of 4.5% in CY 2012.
Mohit Raizada, senior market analyst at IDC said, “Despite end user promotions and heavy marketing campaigns by all the leading vendors, InkJet market was not able to sustain the interest levels with the end users, who are preferring to spend their budgets on other consumer products such as Smartphones and Tablets. Peripheral Products such as Printers remain a secondary product for Indian consumers.” On the other hand, overall Laser market which is a commercial segment driven market, recorded an impressive Y-o-Y growth of 13.7% in CY 2012. “With both government and enterprises preferring MFPs, a clear shift towards Laser MFP was witnessed as the share of Laser MFP increased to 24.6% of the overall HCP market in India,” Mohit further added.
In terms of vendor share, HP continued its dominance with 47.7% market share in the overall HCP market with the help of its strong brand image and continued channel partner support. Canon too maintained its second spot with a market share of 18.9% followed by Epson at 11.2% for CY 2012.
