Newer Tech reduces cost of miniStack with CD/DVD option

The miniStack Max is an external storage/reader box designed with the Mac mini in mind. The box houses an optical drive, hard disk drive, and SD card reader to expand the options and capacity to the mini, but also any Mac. It connects to your Mac via eSATA, FireWire 800/400, and USB 3.0/2.0.

Announced Wednesday is a plain DVD/CD. This shaves some cost off of the device for those with no interest in BD support or DVD/CD burning. The current Mac mini, of course, lacks an optical drive of any kind.

The miniStack Max is available in a variety of storage options include a bare kit to DIY your own hard drive. Pricing starts out at about $195 for the DVD/CD option, $220 for the BD reader + CD/DVD-RW and $260 for the BD writer + DVD/CD-RW.
