Intel has officially announced that the next generation of Thunderbolt, previously codenamed Falcon Ridge, will be called... wait for it... Thunderbolt 2. Lame name, sadly—but it still promises to be amazing.

In fact Intel spilled the beans on he new data connection back in April, explaining that it would be capable of 20Gbps in both directions—fast enough to transfer and play 4K video simultaneously. Back then, though, it wasn't clear when we could expect to see hardware toting the connections. Now, Intel is promising that we should see (s0me) Thunderbolt 2 products later this year.
