Pinterest Update Lets Users Search Their Pins

Pinterest this week rolled out an update perfect for pin-happy users, or those just too lazy to scroll through their boards.

The social media corkboard added a search feature that will make it easier for users to find their own pins. Previously, they had to just sift through what could be hundreds of images in one board.

To search, type a word or phrase into the search bar — "San Francisco," or "BBQ" — and filter the results with the "Just my pins" option. Everything you've pinned with those keywords in the description will show up, making it easier to rediscover buried pins.

"If you're getting ready to cook dinner, you can now easily find that recipe you've been meaning to make," Pinterest software engineer Hui Xu wrote in a blog post. "Or you may have free time for weekend projects and want to quickly find your 'DIY' pins."

With the right caption tags, the new function can save users time and frustration. The update is rolling out slowly to all Web users, and will be available soon via Pinterest's iOS and Android mobile apps.

"We hope you enjoy searching across all your boards and finding hidden treasures along the way," Xu said.

This is the latest move in Pinterest's playbook. It kicked off 2013 with its first acquisition — recipe discovery site Punchfork. Two months later, Pinterest debuted a new Web look, with features like a close-up view of pins and the "people who pinned this also pinned" option.

Last month, the company's mobile apps got a boost with push notifications, suggestions, group boards, and friend mentions. Pinterest also recently launched a new branding function for products, recipes, and movies.
