Report: Intel Is Making Its Own Phone UI "Obsidian"

The lock screen has the usual slide-to-unlock, and displays “Life magazine” text which was first seen on Samsung’s reference Tizen device at MWC 2013. The app screen and contacts screen also appear to be connected in an unusual way, allowing the user to swipe into a single contact screen to the left, then to a contacts list even further to the left, with the “apps” pane two swipes to the right.

Samsung-backed Tizen has officially been announced at the Mobile World Congress. The Tizen 2.0 OS is based on the Linux operating system similar to Android. According to some reports, Tizen device will debut in France in August/ September, with Orange and Samsung, followed by other markets in 2014. Samsung will completely be giving up on Bada OS, and it will get integrated into the Tizen OS project. However the new Tizen devices will be able to run Bada apps.

The Intel reference device that will get the Obsidian UI first is codenamed Josephine. The original “development-ready” date for the UI was set for July, but since it was not an official announcement by Intel, the deadline for a device having the new UI may extend or fall back.
