VIDEO: Hands On With the Final Nvidia Shield

We got some hands-on time with Nvidia's gaming device, which is coming out at the end of this month, so we made a video.

Nvidia's Shield gaming system has been a long time coming. We first saw it at CES, where it was buggy and the controllers were mushy; it then popped up at PAX East, the CTIA wireless show and it's currently doing the rounds at E3.

Nvidia came to New York today to show off the final unit, which was much better built than previous models. It still wasn't perfect: the Android game Virtua Tennis crashed, and Nvidia reps kept insisting the ability to stream PC games to the console within your house was "in beta."

This time, I took a look at it with ExtremeTech editor James Plafke, who is one of the hard core gamers Nvidia is targeting. He'll have his opinions up on ExtremeTech.com soon (Update: Here it is). But my perspective, as a non-gamer who looks at a lot of Android devices, hasn't changed much. The $349 Shield looks interesting: the Tegra 4 processor is powerful and the available games look console-quality. But with Tegra Zone games and Android-powered entertainment also available on a range of Android smartphones, I just don't see the additional $349 purchase happening here.

But as I said, I'm not a gamer. Take a look yourself at our gallery of the latest Nvidia Shield experience and our hands-on video below. The Nvidia Shield is currently in pre-orders and is coming out by the end of June.
