LexisNexis Digital Library Enhanced with New Features and Content

New capabilities, links to more content, compatibility with other solutions optimizes the digital library experience for legal professionals regardless of device or access point

NEW YORK--()--LexisNexis® Legal & Professional, a leading provider of content and technology solutions, today announced that it has added new features and capabilities to its market leading LexisNexis® Digital Library eLending solution to advance the digital library experience for legal professionals. The announcement comes as LexisNexis prepares to participate in the American Association of Law Libraries (AALL) annual meeting in Seattle.

“Law firms are challenged by the increasingly mobile workforce, where users expect real-time access to authoritative information and intelligence on demand – where they need it, when they need it and formatted for the device they have,” said Jeff Bois, director of research and information services at law firm Foley & Lardner LLP. “Lexis Digital Library in conjunction with OverDrive technology creates an ‘open’ platform that put us in a position to provide a digital bookshelf that mirrors the feel and functionality of a print library with accessibility from any device while also allowing us to capitalize on the synergies between traditional book, e-books and online research tools.”

“Today lawyers and other legal professionals require more eBook titles, broader accessibility and greater utility for them, and easier overall collection management,” said Scott Meiser, senior director of research information at LexisNexis and scheduled speaker and panelist at two sessions on eBooks at AALL’s annual meeting. “The new features for LexisNexis Digital Library deliver on those demands for the librarian and end user by making digital collections more manageable and titles easier to read and share regardless of device or access point.”

New features for LexisNexis Digital Library include:

  • Enhanced design and readability – the new responsive design of LexisNexis Digital Library adapts to the screen size it is being accessed from to provide easier reading and navigation and a more consistent user experience regardless of whether it is accessed via a computer, mobile phone or tablet.
  • OverDrive Read™ integration with syncing and more - LexisNexis Digital Library customers will have access to greater professional functionality via OverDrive Read. This browser-based e-reader allows users to access an eBook instantly on any device without downloading or activating software. It also enables them to sync annotations, highlighted text and bookmarked pages across multiple devices. Each of these features is compatible with all major web browsers including Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Apple Safari, Mozilla Firefox.
  • Access via EOS.Web – LexisNexis Digital Library works with EOS.Web from library automation and knowledge management solutions provider EOS International. This helps librarians centrally manage both digital and print content and users to search for and find titles in one location regardless of source.
  • Law360 legal newsletters via RSS feed – LexisNexis Digital Library customers can see timely headlines from leading legal news service Law360 via RSS feed. Those with a subscription to Law360 can connect directly from the headlines to full coverage.
  • One-step checkout - Saves users time and helps them get started faster by enabling users to borrow an eBook with one step.

Earlier this year, LexisNexis enabled links between LexisNexis eBooks text to Lexis Advance for customers with a subscription to the Lexis Advance legal research solution. This creates a streamlined research process enabling a seamless transition from general information contained in an eBook title to in- depth research on specific documents, issues, case law or related analytical content contained in Lexis Advance.

Created in conjunction with leading eBook distributer OverDrive® and launched last year, LexisNexis Digital Library offers law librarians a single location to order titles from a diversity of sources, supervise lending of all electronic content and centrally manage their library – helping reduce costs associated with storing, filing and distributing titles in traditional print format. Using LexisNexis Digital Library, legal professionals can check out and share eBook titles from the largest collection of more than 1,800 authoritative legal eBooks that are compatible with all major mobile devices and desktop platforms.

Professionals across each major sector of the legal marketplace use LexisNexis Digital Library, including those in large and small law firms, corporations, government and law schools. In addition to eBooks, customers using LexisNexis Digital Library have access to more than 800,000 titles from other publishers via the OverDrive Content Reserve. This is a critical capability for librarians because it enables them to aggregate all of their content in one platform instead of having different access points for titles from different sources.

Customized for each law firm, corporation or organization, LexisNexis Digital Library offers flexible licensing to fit the specific needs of each customer.
