'Anti-Instagram' Photo-Sharing App Pixter For iOS Receives Biggest Update Yet

August 11, 2013
Pixter for iOS has just received what may very well be its most significant update yet. Released late last May, Pixter is a photo-sharing app that's sort of an "anti-Instagram," that is, as far as Instagram's apparent inclination toward advertising is concerned. Pixter developer MetaRain explains:
All services have an incentive to make money. Other services decide to do that by selling you (or your data). We, unlike others, charge you for the service. In return, we provide a good, reliable service tailored for your needs. As a paid service, we are dedicated in improving our services continuously with ONLY the best user experience in mind. We do not need features that favor advertisers. Pixter's privacy policy guarantees you an exclusive copyright of all your content. We do not own the right to sublicense your content to third party services (unlike our competitors).
To this end, Pixter offers a couple of premium plans. The app is free to use with an upload limit of 52 photos per year (equivalent to one photo per week). For unlimited photo uploads, it lets you choose between a $0.99 bimonthly subscription plan and a $3.99 yearly subscription plan. Alternatively, you can now increase your photo upload limit to a maximum of 100 per year through Pixter's new referral program. If you invite a friend and that friend signs up to Pixter, both you and the friend get to upload five more photos. This referral program is just one of the improvements brought by the latest update to Pixter. Another is support for commenting on photos (finally, and with the ability to @mention users in comments at that). And yet another is support for push notifications for mentions, likes, and new followers. The update also adds a new My Likes section where you can see all of the photos you've liked across the Pixter network. Also including bug fixes, performance improvements, and a new option to save filtered images, the new version of Pixter for iOS is available now in the App Store for free. The app is optimized for iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 6.0 or later. Pixter for iOS is not to be confused with Pixter Scanner OCR by Quanticapps, which was updated last month with a new design and universal support. [gallery link="file" order="DESC"]
