VENICE BEACH, Calif. — A new iPhone that could possibly be gold-colored has been the talk of the Internet all week. How's it play in real life?

Sisters Jenna and Beatrice Gonzales of Houston.

We went down to the beach to gauge consumer reaction.

— "That's a great idea," says Nora Ghods, of Los Angeles. Gold would be "glamorous."

— Nora's cousin Diana Ghods, also of Los Angeles, isn't so sure. "I'm not into gold," she says. "I'd like to have a silver phone. Gold, I would never wear it, so I don't think I would own a gold iPhone."

The company is expected to unveil the latest iPhone on Sept. 10 in San Francisco.

It would be the first color added to the iconic device since its debut in 2007. The iPhone currently comes in black and white versions. Apple hasn't commented on the color choice.

Here's more of what folks have to say:

— Sally Gonzales of Houston is all for it. "That would rock it," she says. "It just goes with a lot of what I wear, so it's one extra thing. It's always in our hands anyway."

— "I think it's ridiculous," says Carey Lang of Amherst, Mass. "Most iPhones are stolen, broken or lost….gold would be even more of a target."

— "I don't like it," says Natalie Horev, from Israel. "I like things quiet." A gold iPhone would be "too loud."

— Venice street performer Pablo Panici, (aka "Purple Reggae") says he's all about gold and diamonds, and can't wait. "I'm going to go out and get it."

— Adds Veronica Capone of Los Angeles, walking down Ocean Front Walk here with a purple top and dyed purple hair. "I love gold colors," she says. Would she rather have a purple iPhone? No. "I prefer gold."
