Apple Officially Granted Trademark For 'Passbook'

Apple has been awarded a trademark for the term "Passbook," which the Cupertino, Calif. company uses to describe the digital wallet service that launched with iOS 6. The news comes from Patently Apple, who notes:
On August 30, 2013, the US Patent & Trademark Office published Apple's latest registered trademark for "Passbook" under registration number 4,391,155. The trademark which was officially granted on Monday was originally filed for in November 2012. The Passbook icon was granted registered status on August 01, 2013. Passbook is an application in iOS that allows users to store coupons, boarding passes, event tickets, store cards, 'generic' cards and other forms of mobile payment. Passbook debuted during Apple's World Wide Developer Conference on June 11, 2012 and released on September 19, 2012.
Apple's registered trademark certificates for "Passbook" and the Passbook icon are included below: As you can see in the above certificate, Apple's "Passbook" trademark covers all of the following:
advertising, marketing, and promotion services; promoting the goods and services of others by providing coupons, tickets, passes, rebates, gift cards, gift certificates, discounts, special offers, and vouchers for the goods and services of others, and by distributing advertising material and providing information about the goods, services, events and activities of others; advertising and marketing services, namely, promoting the goods and services of others by providing links to the websites of others and enabling sales of gift cards and gift certificates of others.
