To update your iOS device, check the “General > Software Update” section in your iOS device’s Settings for over-the-air updating or plug into a computer with iTunes installed.
MacDailyNews Take: Happy updating (but expect some delays due to the initial rush)!
Mine is downloading now… sweet.
How did it go?
My update took an hour and a half start to finish. I have to say the difference is striking. I have tried iTunes Radio and it works as advertised. Enjoy exploring because it feels like an entirely new machine.
Best part about it…
I can finally hide Newsstand in a folder.
The finger magnifier is offset now when I try to edit text. That’s not good.
Mr. Cook, please address the aforementioned bug, if you please.
Thank you.
Hiding newsstand will be nice!
Have to wait a few more hours before I can update my iPhone, but the iPad started the download at lunch. “Should” be done when I get home lol.
Still waiting patiently in TIMbuctoo!!! 🙂
in northeast Ohio Downloading Now
Already have the gm so no update I guess
You still have to update, otherwise your phone will go into restore mode in like a week or so. Wait for the dev site to be updated with the latest public ipsw file and download it.
ON it’s way down the pipeline now…
Downloading now on the phone, started at exactly 6pm GMT.
Looking forward to seeing what it really looks like.
Yup, just showed up on my phone. Still not avail via the iTunes check, tho. Downloading now.
I had the same issue, but when I updated to the new release of iTunes it showed there was a new iOS available.
It’s not working for m
Went from 10 minutes to 3 minutes to 3 hours…
Downloading right now, started at exactly 6pm, GMT.
Looking forward to seeing what it looks like in RL.
I’m at work and can’t update it over cellular. 🙁 #firstworldproblems
Use your work’s high speed WiFi. #firstworldsolutions
Don’t have it.
Can you buy yourself a $99 Airport Express and take to & from work everyday. And set it up under your desk at work (and maybe don’t tell others? Or better yet, tell them you “discovered” a secret wifi, and and name it something generic sounding or mysterious!)
Unacceptable. Get a new job.
Telling me “unable to check for updates”, servers overloaded already?
if the phone is plugged in, unplug it (provided you have enough battery)
worked for me.
Attempting to download over 50Mb/s WiFi in Los Angeles and it’s failed on 2 devices already. Hmmm…
if the phone is plugged in, unplug it (provided you have enough battery)
worked for me.
matty’s experience jibes with my own. Download failed multiple times while plugged in to wall outlet. Now just running off of battery and still going…11 minutes away from iOS 7??
Software Update errored out during download over WiFi. Now it won’t resume.
iTunes keeps telling me that I have the most current version.
Is this for the iPad or iPhone or both?
You must update to the new iTunes. After updates, the ios7 will be there when you hook up your phone to the computer
is downloading right now.
at the start it estimated 28 minutes, went down to 25 minutes after about 2 minutes and now the time remaining keeps getting up – seems like the pipes start to clog already.
Funny tidbit: “start download” always resulted in an error as long as the phone was plugged in (a work PC laptop sans itunes) – as soon as i unplugged it download started.
Still “No Joy” in Jacksonville
if the phone is plugged in, unplug it (provided you have enough battery)
worked for me.
Started to download at 1:54 pm down here in South Florida via Comcast Blast fast. No issues at all. It’s gorgeous!! iTunes was downloaded very quickly and oh the radio is fantastic.
MDN take: aw, haven’t seen that in a while now. 🙂
Ihnatko says the download is 716MB.
Boys and girls, I counsel patience.
I have received a torrent of iOS app updates in the past few days, and more will surely come. And right behind those will be inevitable emergency bug fixes to your apps. I would not be surprised if Apple pushes out iOS 7.0.1 quickly to address reported bugs, even though it was extensively beta tested.
That’s why, as tempted as you may be, it’s best to WAIT. Keep your pants on and hold off on downloading and installing iOS7 for at least a few days. A week would be even better. Let the other canaries fly into the coal mine.
It’s not to say that iOS won’t work correctly right out of the box, or that your apps won’t blow up. But why take the chance? Being first does not assure happiness.
Oh, and please, back up your iPhone data and apps before proceeding. Please. I hate it when you whine on here, trying to blame Apple for what you failed to do.
Don’t say I didn’t warn you. iOS7 will come your way soon enough. In the mean time, go outside and get a life. Please.
Thanks. Best of luck. And have a nice day.
I suggest paying particular attention to Brian if you have an iPhone 4. I read Anand Shimpi’s review of the iPhone 5s and he complained that iPhone 4 ran slowly on iOS 7 (he used iOS 7 on iPhone 4 to compare performance). No way am I going to put iOS 7 on my iPhone 4 until I get word that performance is good (it’s barely acceptable right now with iOS 6), perhaps with a future enhancement.
1st 3 attempts failed (“An error occurred”). 4th try got it going, then failed after 5 minutes. On my 5th try.
5th try failed after 2 minutes. Keeps failing now when I retry. Not good, but I’ll be patient. I know their servers are getting hammered about as bad as a botnet DOS attack.
Finally got thru again. Now “2 minutes remaining”!
You guys hold off for a few , ok?
aarg, got it?
cause I had like the 20th failed attempt by now
never came below 22 minutes remaining 🙁
Yeah! Download complete. Preparing Update now, so I’m good to go. I guess we just must be a little patient if we’re trying to be among the first.
if the phone is plugged in, unplug it (provided you have enough battery)
worked for Matty
After “verifying update”, get “not available, try later” for iPhone.
Worse, iPad 3 is frozen, displaying the apple logo.
iTunes 11.1 is not reporting the iOS 7 update for me, yet. Servers must be slammed. Guess I’ll wait. I don’t trust over-the-aid OS updates. Too risky for me.
I don’t trust iTunes. Get it over the air.
BLN, how’s your download going? 😉
Been trying since 7 pm Paris time. Nearly impossible to get iTunes update, can’t get iOS 7 over wi-fi update! These servers are workin’ OT already. OK, got 40.1MB of 141MB of iTunes. Ooops. error in download, gotta start over.
Yeah, servers pretty much swamped. I suspect people who use openDNS and googleDNS will have problems also. My download estimate times dropped from 47 minutes to 5 minutes by switching to TimeWarner DNS. Still the blue bar is sitting there, no progress, then after a few minutes, Software Update Failed.
Ah well. Such is life.
iPad down to 19 minutes, iPhone down to about 2 hours?
iPad now dropped out with error. iPhone still going up to about 3 hours.
Here we go. Multiple failures to download. Obviously, Apple fails to prepare again.
Apple prepared perfectly, for they understand the psychological effect of scarcity.
