The gold iPhone 5s is a hot commodity amongst Apple fans. Those hoping to snag the new champagne-hued smartphone will now be waiting several weeks.

The gold iPhone 5s is now listed on Apple's website as shipping in October, for all carriers and storage sizes. For comparison, the space gray and silver 5s will ship within 7 to 10 business days for all versions of the device.

All colors and versions of the more low-end iPhone 5c, meanwhile, are listed as shipping in 1 to 3 business days.

Smartphone buyers were able to start placing their orders at 3 a.m. Eastern online, so it seems the early risers snatched up the first batch of gold iPhone 5s devices.

For those who want to get their hands on a new iPhone sooner, the devices went on sale at Apple and carriers stores beginning at 8 a.m. local time. PCMag was at the flagship Apple Store on Fifth Avenue this morning to check out the lines, which wrapped around the block. Stay tuned for our full story.

Those stores rarely discuss just how many smartphone they have in stock, so unless you were in line early this morning, you might just have to place your order online and sit tight. As noted by the BBC, carriers in the U.K. said that their supply of the 5s was "severely limited," but did not elaborate on what constituted limited.

On Twitter, those who purchased the gold iPhone 5s said their estimated delivery times were around Oct. 28 - 30, while others lamented their lack of a gold 5s.

"Guess I'm getting the space gray iPhone because literally every white and gold is sold out," tweeted @M_arisSays.

"So why did I think I was really gonna walk in sprint & walk out with the gold iPhone ? Lol," quipped @young_jayed.

In a statement, Sprint said that its stores are now "seriously constrained or sold out of iPhone 5s inventory provided to us by Apple." The carrier will add peoples' names to a wait list if they purchase a $50 Sprint gift card.

Others joked that the smartphone is the modern-day Willy Wonka golden ticket.
