Say you're traveling in another country and everything is going great until you drop your iPhone and the screen shatters. Now, if you have AppleCare+, the accident doesn't necessarily have to put a damper on your entire trip.

According to TechCrunch, Apple recently tweaked the terms and conditions of its AppleCare+ service, lifting a requirement that devices need to be serviced in the country in which you purchased the protection plan. This means that if you're traveling abroad and something happens to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod, you can now have it repaired anywhere AppleCare+ is offered.

The report notes that not all replacement or repair offerings are available in every country, since many do not carry certain iPhone models. According to the AppleCare+ FAQ page, the service is available in Austria, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

The change comes after Apple quietly made some other significant updates to its AppleCare+ service around the same time it introduced the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c. While the plan still costs $99, Apple increased the service fees for accidental damage from $49 to $79. On a more positive note, Apple began offering coverage for iPod touch and iPod classic models for the first time.

All iPhones come with one year of limited hardware repair coverage. AppleCare+ extends coverage to two years from the day you purchased your device, and adds the two accidental damage repairs. AppleCare+ plans must be purchased within 30 days of your iPhone purchase.
