If you loved the addictive mobile game Cut the Rope, then get ready for a new challenge with the Om Nom monster.

Developer ZeptoLap on Thursday announced plans to release Cut the Rope 2 this holiday season. The game reimagines the universe of Om Nom, the game's little green star, offering up "new twists on classic gameplay, never-before-seen characters, interactive environments, and a captivating story that will appeal to new players and existing fans alike."

If the popularity of Cut the Rope is any indication, the sequel is poised to be a huge hit. To date, ZeptoLab games have surpassed more than 400 million global downloads and reached 60 million active monthly users in the first half of 2013, the company said. Players have cut more than 60 billion ropes at a pace of 42,000 ropes per minute, feeding nearly 20 billion candies to the gluttinous Om Nom.

Since releasing Cut the Rope in 2010, the company has released a number of spinoffs like Cut the Rope: Experiments, Cut the Rope: Time Travel, and Pudding Monsters, but Cut the Rope 2 will be the first true sequel to the flagship game.

"We remain dedicated to our mission: examining the science of fun. That means building experiences that players love," ZeptoLab CEO Misha Lyalin said in a statement. "Cut the Rope 2 is a massive step forward for the game. Amazing graphics, gameplay, and characters drive a brand new experience that fans are going to love."

Alongside the launch of Cut the Rope 2, ZeptoLab will release a new season of its Web series, Om Nom Stories. The series, which is currently in its second season, has racked up more than 85 million views on YouTube and is now airing on major TV networks.
