The second-generation Kindle Paperwhite is an iterative upgrade, but one that is still worth your attention. The newest version of Amazon's e-reader comes with access to the company's famously extensive bookstore, plus Goodreads integration, which lets you see what books your friends are reading and rating. The lighting is also updated to make it easier to read -- although at some brightness levels you can see unevenness along the bottom of the screen. That's easy to overlook though as you're flipping through Kindle pages 25 percent faster.
