Mozart 626 is an iPhone app that focuses on the large musical catalogue of the great composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Developed by Klaus Brink, Mozart 626 contains a full list of Mozart’s works: a full 626 pieces, and hence the name of the application.

The app itself is easy to navigate and has a comprehensive Introduction which provides the user with detailed information on how to use Mozart 626 and how to search for particular pieces.

As Mozart 626 is essentially a database app, the search function is the most important – it lets you find a particular symphony, piano concert or sonata within the Koechel Catalogue / Koechel Index (a catalogue of Mozart’s works). Within the search function, you can run checks for pieces by location, description and by date.

If you tap on a search result you’ll be given the ‘K number’ of the piece, the name of the work (in German), the date it was produced and the location if known.

Unfortunately, the app is unable to play the music for each song due to copyright issues – each links to iTunes where you can listen to 30 seconds of music for free. If you want to download the songs then each one has to be paid for separately.

Mozart 626 is illustrated by a number of young people, with images displaying particular Mozart motifs and history.

Given the volume of works produced by Mozart, it makes sense to have a means of easily searching his vast catalogue. Mozart 626 is an iPhone app which makes this possible, but the to-and-fro between the app and iTunes in order to listen to a sample of the music does detract.

Mozart 626 is available now for $3.99 in the App Store.

Mozart 626 requires iOS 6.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. Follow Tapscape for reviews of all the best iPhone music apps.
