Fuz Designs wants to do the same thing for phone docks in your car that it’s done for docking stations for the home and office: add a little stability to the picture.
The company was a Kickstarter success story last fall, when it sought funding for its EverDock line of mobile device charging docks. The public responded, pledging more than $450,000—well past the modest goal of $50,000 that Fuz Designs was asking for.

It’s easy to see why the EverDock caught the eye of mobile users. In a world where mobile accessories can often feel flimsy—for heaven’s sake, Apple’s own iPhone 5c case snapped apart on me after modest use—EverDock adds some badly needed durability. It’s fashioned out of a solid block of aluminum. More impressively, it uses microsuction technology to cling to whatever surface you’ve stuck it to. When you grab your iPhone on the go, the EverDock stays fixed in place.

Fuz Designs is now turning its attention to a dock for cars; it’s showing off the results at this week’s Macworld/iWorld event in San Francisco. Microsuction’s not a feasible solution for the car, Fuz co-founder Cameron Gibbs told me. Instead, the company went with a cylindrical design that fits in your car’s cupholder, locking the charging dock into place with a twist.
For the automotive version of its dock, Fuz Designs is once again going the Kickstarter route. In fact, the campaign was to begin Thursday to coincide with the opening of Macworld/iWorld, but that was held up as Kickstarter and Fuz Designs work out the final details of the campaign. Once again, Fuz Designs is looking to raise $50,000. The device will cost $39 when it ships.
In the meantime, mobile users can still enjoy the current EverDock lineup, which can charge via Lightning, 30-pin, and microUSB connectors. The single dock version costs $49 while the EverDock Duo is available for $69.
