If, like everyone else in the world, you’re using your smartphone or tablet as your default video camera these days, chances are the results are often pretty shaky. After all, without a tripod, it’s hard to hold your phone or tablet perfectly still.
Creaceed has a new app out that aims to take the shake out of those videos. Emulsio (free) is a video-stabilization application that works with footage captured using your iPhone or iPad’s camera. It helps smooth out the shakes and bumps that naturally occur when shooting handheld video. It can even compensate for the wobble that naturally happens when you pan.
Emulsio is non-destructive, so you can always go back to the original footage if you don’t like the correction. It has a nice preview feature that splits the viewer window and lets you see the footage before and after stabilization is applied. It will even stabilize slo-mo footage captured with the iPhone 5s.
The more stabilization applied, the more Emulsio zooms in, so you lose a bit of the image. Being able to preview allows you to find the sweet spot between stability and the size of your shot.
The free version of Emulsio limits the resulting clips to 30 seconds. The Emulsio Pro Pack, a $1.99 in-app purchase, removes that limitation, as well as the small watermark the free version applies to exported clips.
