Lenovo once again reigns supreme in the PC world, as the Chinese technology giant shipped more computers than any other company during the first quarter of 2014, according to research firm IDC.

Year over year, global PC shipments declined by 4.4 percent, although Lenovo is still making gains. It claimed 17.7 percent of the global market share, compared to 15.3 percent last year.

Lenovo was followed by HP (NYSE: HPQ) at 17.1 percent, Dell at 13.4 percent, Acer Group at 6.8 percent and ASUS at 5.9 percent.

The company, which runs its Americas division from Morrisville, rose to third place in U.S. PC shipments, trailing HP and Dell.

Research aside, Lenovo has had a monumental year, with more than $5 billion in pending acquisitions, including the $2.3 billion buy of IBM's (NYSE: IBM) Research Triangle Park-based server business.
