The Most Desired iPhone 6 Improvement: Better Battery Life

Following
This article is more than 9 years old.

I've written before about why battery life should be the next smartphone battleground. The latest models pack-in so many features and are such useful devices that their batteries just can't keep up.

Most struggle to see through a day of medium to heavy use and if you forget to charge your smartphone the night before, chances are the first thing on your mind in the morning will be where the first place is you can charge it.

According to the latest surveys carried out by Financesonline.com a lot of your reading this agree that battery life is important too. In fact, in its latest info-graphic, a survey on the most-wanted improved feature saw a massive 37 % of people  choosing battery life as their most desired feature to be improved with Apple's iPhone 6, which is due to be announced on 9th September.

This is nearly 20% ahead of the next most desired upgrade, which is a bigger screen, with less than 20% of people listing this as the most-wanted improved feature. While we don't know exactly what capacity the iPhone 6 will have, we are fairly certain there will be two models, both bigger than any previous iPhone so Apple has at least catered for this feature.

Next on the list was a better camera - also a fairly certain upgrade with the iPhone 6, but just 11% of participants wanted  improved picture taking - less than a third as many that wanted better battery life. Interestingly, similar amounts also wanted better phone reception and more memory.

The survey also includes data on the most desired new features too - in other words entirely new ones. Top of the list with nearly half of those surveyed was the highly anticipated sapphire screen, which is hoped to put an end to scratched and cracked touch screens due to its toughness. Apple already beats many of its competitors in drop tests on video sites such as YouTube, and the new screen protection technology could give it a real edge over its competitors.

In a previous article I discussed what features the iPhone 6 should have to stay in the game and one I mentioned as a possible new addition was an infrared camera, which would allow you to take photos and videos in the dark. This is already available on most digital video cameras and surprisingly nearly 20 per cent of those surveyed wanted an infrared camera.

We already know that IOS8 will include certain health-orientated apps as Apple has recently launched a preview site of its new mobile operating system, which you can see here. However, just 10.7 % of those surveyed listed new health and fitness tools as their top most-wanted new feature. This was followed closely by the ability to take 3D images and also by new control tools for home appliances such as lighting and heating.

The survey also looks at just how many new innovations were included with each iPhone model since the original model over seven years ago. The models with the most new innovations were the iPhone 4 and 4S, which unsurprisingly coincided with the two biggest leaps in iPhone sales revenue that occurred between 2010 and 2012. Of the features rumored to be included with the iPhone 6 so far, such as the sapphire screen, health apps and even a barometer, this could spell yet more substantial sales for apple.
