Wayfare Shows You the World by Connecting You With People Far Away

Android/iOS: Traveling is a great way to expand your horizons and learn about the world beyond your doorstep, but not all of us have the luxury to do it when we want to. Luckily, Wayfare, a new mobile app, wants to help you explore far off places by connecting you with the people that live there. Here's how it works.

Think of Wayfare is both a teaching tool and a bit of a penpal finder. Both you and the person you connect with will have the opportunity to learn about each others' cultures and home cities and countries through regular photo missions and quick notes to one another. If you and your virtual pen pal don't speak the same language, that's fine too—the app has a built-in translation tool to help you get on the same page.

Wayfare is free, and a fun little way to learn something about a far-off place before you travel, or just to see something new and interesting without leaving town. The service has over 10,000 people to connect with in over 110 countries (with most being in the US, Japan, UK, Korea, and Germany, in that order.) Best of all, when you connect with someone in another country who's interested in your life and culture, you may discover enriching experiences in your own backyard.
