At PCMag, we know products—our experts review and recommend thousands of them. Our deals team works tirelessly to find the lowest prices on the technology you want most.

For Black Friday, Amazon is offering deals on its Echo devices, Fire TV media-streaming sticks, and Fire tablets. The Fire tablets offer a budget-friendly alternative to Apple’s iPads and are convenient if you’re already in the Amazon Alexa ecosystem.

Along with the regular versions of the Fire tablets, the Kids and Kids Pro versions are also on sale. Built with children in mind, they variants allow you to set web-browsing filters and time limits with parental controls. They also come with a protective case and a two-year warranty. Finally, Amazon includes one year of Amazon Kids+ with your purchase, giving your child access to over 20,000 apps, games, books, videos, songs, and Audible books. The Kids tablets are recommended for children ages 3-7, while the Kids Pro tablets are recommended for children ages 6-12 and offer a customizable home screen as well as a digital store.

Fire HD 10 and Fire HD 10 Plus

Amazon updated the Fire HD 10 this year to deliver a very good tablet for $150, as long as what you want to do is control Alexa and consume Amazon books and media. But even without the Google Play store, it's the best tablet you can get for less than $200. It sports a 10.1-inch 1080p Full HD display, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and a 2GHz quad-core processor. In our tests, the battery lasted for 12 hours, and 48 minutes. Upgrading to the HD 10 Plus version gives you 4GB of RAM and wireless charging capabilities.

Fire HD 8 and Fire HD 8 Plus

For a more affordable and compact tablet, the Fire HD 8 features an 8-inch 1,280-by-800-resolution display, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage along with a quad-core processor clocked at 2GHz. In our tests, the battery lasted for 9 hours, 25 minutes of video playback over Wi-Fi at maximum brightness (you'll get even more with the brightness turned down a bit). Upgrading to the Fire HD 8 Plus gives you wireless charging capability plus an extra gigabyte of RAM.

Fire 7

The Fire 7 is the least expensive of the Fire tablets, with a quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz along with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. It does have a lower-end display with a resolution of 1,024 by 600, so it won't offer as crisp a screen as its higher-end counterparts, but you can't beat the price if you need an affordable slate.
