Business laptops are slimming down, and HP's EliteBook line is no exception. With new Intel processors and solid-state drives, HP is announcing several new and refreshed business systems, leading with the HP EliteBook Folio 1020 notebook, which HP claims to be the thinnest business laptop on the market.

HP EliteBook Folio 1020
The new EliteBook Folio 1020 G1 notebook and the EliteBook Folio 1020 G1 Special Edition are among the slimmest business laptops on the market with a svelte new 0.62-inch thick chassis and a sleek fanless design. Instead of a bulky hard drive, the EliteBook Folio 1020 is available with a zippy solid-state drive (SSD), and full complement of ports and connectors.

Special Edition counterpart both benefit from an Intel Core M processor, which reduces the cooling requirements of a traditional Core processor, allowing passive, fanless cooling. HP keeps things extra light on the 1020 Special Edition model (just 2.3 pounds) by using forged magnesium-lithium alloy and reuseable carbon fiber, a greener alternative to regular carbon fiber that incorporates reclaimed material to provide the same lightweight strength.

The laptops are built to pass military-grade (MIL-STD 810G) testing, so you'll be safe through all the rigors of travel, the scrapes and spills of home or the office, and extremes in temperature and pressure. It's also good for work on the go, with up to 9 hours of battery life.

The light and portable systems feature 12.5-inch displays, with touch and non-touch options available. The EliteBook Folio 1020 Special Edition will also be available with a higher-resolution Quad HD non-touch option.

Outfitted for business use, both versions of the EliteBook Folio 1020 offer features like HP Client Management Solutions, Intel vPro technology, and LANDesk. HP's Sure Start BIOS protection and repair help fend off outside attacks, along with certified Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 1.2/2.0, pre-boot authentication, and a built-in fingerprint reader for secure login.

The standard model of the HP EliteBook Folio 1020 will be available in April, with the HP EliteBook Folio 1020 Special Edition available in April. Pricing has not yet been announced.

Processor Refresh
HP is also announcing that several systems are getting a refresh, with the new Intel Core M processors and more current Intel Core i3 and Core i5 CPUs coming to models across the EliteBook line of business notebooks.

The HP EliteBook Folio 1040 G2 updates the previous HP Elitebook Folio 1040 G1 ultrabook with a new Intel Core M processor, a slimmer fanless design, and enhanced security and manageability tools.

The HP EliteBook 800 Series—specifically the 820, 840, and 850 models—are getting a processor update as well, with new Intel Core i3 and Core i5 CPUs available for configuration, while the convertible EliteBook Revolve 810 is being updated with an Intel Core M processor.

The HP EliteBook 700 Series—the 720, 740, and 750 models—are also being updated with new Intel Core i3 and Core i5 processors, but are otherwise physically unchanged.

The updated HP EliteBook 700 Series, the EliteBook 800 Series, and the updated EliteBook Folio 1040 are expected to be available this January. Pricing is not yet available.
