Microsoft has started sending out invites for a press conference that it will hold at the upcoming Mobile World Congress 2015 in Barcelona, Spain, suggesting that news regarding its smartphone efforts is very likely to be shared with attendees.

Redmond hasn't provided any details on the invites it has submitted to some journalists, but it has revealed that its press conference will start at 8.30 AM CET (11.30 PM PT) on March 2 (March 1 in PT).

Basically, MWC 2015 will be used by Microsoft to detail its Windows 10 plans for mobiles, so expect the company to finally share more information on the way the new operating system will work on smartphones.

Microsoft is projected to release the very first Windows 10 for phones technical preview in February, so next month the company could not only ship an update for this particular build but also provide more information on the feedback it received and the features that could be implemented into future versions of the operating system.

At the same time, the software giant is also said to unveil some new Windows Phone models, but nothing too exciting, as flagships are not expected to see daylight until late 2015, when Windows 10 officially becomes available to everyone.

As a result, MWC 2015 could bring us a handful of new low-end and mid-budget Lumia models that would help Microsoft compete against cheap Android devices in several developing markets.
