Austin (KXAN) – Lots of buzz at the Dell Children’s Medical center Saturday during the annual St. Baldrick’s Foundation fundraiser.

The Children’s Blood & Cancer Center teamed up with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation for the largest non-government sponsor of childhood cancer research grants. They’ve raised more than $154 million together.

Folks getting shaved helped raised money for the cause. Some had not had a hair cut for a very long time.

“My last time was when I did St. Baldrick’s last year,” said Austin firefighter Aiden Bradley. “So a full year of hair growth, we were given a little dispensation by the fire department.”

Even the staff at Dell Children’s got in on the fun.

“We see a lot of children come in and out with different types of cancer and I felt this is a great way to honor those kids,” said physical therapist Jenny Cole.

Saturday’s head shaving had a lot of laughs too; Southside Market provided Bar-B-Que, Hyperfeet and the Irish Dance Center was the entertainment.

Every year at Dell’s Blood & Cancer Center they see some 100 newly diagnosed cases. They are living proof bald is beautiful.
